Thailand Mission Trip

16-21 Feb 2009

Objectives

To visit and encourage brethren at existing outreaches in North Thailand.

Activities

The Lord granted us a smooth journey to a small village near the town of Maechan in Chiangrai. There we visited Preacher Ming. He pastors over 14 families in a local church. There are 2 services on every Lord’s Day; 1 in the morning and 1 in the afternoon. About 40 people come to the services and 20 children attend the Sunday School.

We also went to Chiangkong town to visit Preacher Chang. A number of people from a nearby village professed to believe in the Lord. He conducts Bible studies on every Saturday morning and afternoon. About 20 adults and children attend the classes. One Chinese family professed to believe in the Lord but there is no Mandarin-speaking church at the town. There is potential to start a Mandarin ministry in the town as the town is visited by quite a number of Chinese from nearby countries.

According to a report, Chinese language is regarded as the first foreign language in Thailand. Many people are keen to send their children for Mandarin tuition class. It is a good opportunity to reach out to the children through Mandarin class. Through the Mandarin language, they can be taught the Bible verses. Though the people by and large, are indifferent to the Gospel, they are very concerned for the education of the children.

Please pray that the Word of the Lord may be preached freely and the lost souls in the nearby area may come to Christ. Pray for the 2 preachers that the Lord may open more doors for them to minister. Also pray for the people of God there that they might be active in the service of God. “Brethren, pray for us,” 1 Thessalonians 5:25.

We have heard of the village called Piang Luang before but we did not know where it is. Preacher Xiong was very concerned for this place which he had pastored before. This time we had the opportunity to visit this village. This village is quite far away, about 72km from the main road. We had to pass through 3 hills before we reach the valley area. It has more than 1 thousand families in the valley. There are 2 churches which ministers to the Mandarin-speaking and Thai-speaking villagers.

There is a great potential for students ministry and orphans ministry. Pray that the Lord will raise up His servants to serve the people here. Given the right guidance, many souls will be led to the everlasting way and not the way of destruction.

“And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest,” Matthew 9:35-38.
