CALL TO SERVE

From the Board of Elders

Dear Members in Christ,

Call to serve … “As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” 1 Peter 4:10.

I am indeed encouraged by Sister Pei Ni for her testimony which I reproduce herewith. I do pray and hope that you will be similarly encouraged and edified too.

May we be united in love and spirit to serve our Lord of lords and King of kings in whatever capacity He calls us to. Let us “Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice. Philippians 4:4 as we serve Him together.

Look only to Jesus by Sister Pei Ni

“Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith…” Hebrews 121-2

I truly thank God for His grace and mercy. Despite the many weaknesses that I have, He still grant me the opportunity to serve Him.

I have always believed that God have set very high requirements for deacon’s qualification in the Bible. A deacon of a church should be a person who loves the Lord, has good character and conduct, always showing good testimonies, and is a good example worthy of many to follow. Thank God, most of the church deacons whom I am familiar with (including from other BP church) have these qualifications. However, when I look at myself who has little faith, I often feel that I’ve failed to meet God’s requirements in many aspects of my life, thus I’m not worthy to serve Him. I always want more time to be equipped and be transformed, so that I can be more spiritual before coming forward to serve God. After all, God is perfect and holy, serving Him is an important task and must not be taken lightly.

But God reminded me through His servants and His Word that every believer will hunger and thirst after righteousness and would want to live out God's righteousness and holiness (Matthew 5:6). However, we should not pay too much attention to our weaknesses until it becomes an obstacle for us to serve God. In all things, just look to Jesus who alone is our Savior and Christ. "As it is written: There is none righteous, no, not one" (Romans 3:10). "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23). The all-knowing Lord fully knows our weaknesses, yet He still loves us. He humbled Himself and endured the suffering of crucifixion in order to save us from our sin and its eternal punishment. He is the author and finisher of our faith (Hebrews 12:2). He gave us the believing faith and will lead us to complete the journey of faith. We should look unto our Savior, Jesus Christ like the Israelites in the days of Moses who were bitten by snakes and looked up to the bronze serpent with faith, focus on His works, His power of salvation and His infinite glory, not our own limited ability. We just need to continue to rely on the Lord while we walk through the journey of sanctification and services unto Him, the power of the Lord can definitely change our lives and make us become more and more like Christ. "Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it." (1 Thessalonians 5:24)

We should lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us. Let us look unto Jesus every day and live by His grace. May the Lord help His people to continue to grow while walking through the journey of faith and service, and the inward man be renewed day by day (2 Corinthians 4:16), that the name of the Lord may be glorified.

Amen and Amen for Pei Ni’s testimony. God be praised.

In Christ, Eld. Choe Tong Seng
