Shepherd's Guidance 22/2022

7 June 2020

Dear Members in Christ,

REV LEE KS: Why do I Resign as a Pastor of CJBPF

"To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven"

(Ecclesiastes 3:1)

I sensed the call to Christian full-time ministry for a few years before I made up my mind to enter Bible College for training. There were many doubts about the calling until l was sure of divine calling to serve full-time. At first, l planned to apply a Bible College which offered training in Mandarin. But the Lord had arranged in such a way that l came to know Far Eastern Bible College. I was advised to choose this College due to the biblical teachings of separation from compromise. Then l ended up training in the English language from 1986-1989. Rev. (Dr) Timothy Tow Siang Hui was the Principal at that time. Rev. Timothy Tow was trained in Nanjing under Rev. Chia-Yu Ming’s Bible College before he was trained in Faith Seminary in the United States of America. Being born in a Christian family in China and moved to Malaya and Singapore, Rev. Tow was well versed in Chinese and English languages. We were blessed with the Chinese expressions of the scriptural truth in the class. Rev. Tow was well versed in church history and world history and he would use history to illustrate his lessons.

After my graduation, l did not go back to the Christian denomination which l was from due to doctrinal convictions. The Lord led me to serve in Calvary Jaya Gospel Missions in Petaling Jaya at the end of 1989. I started to teach in the English Youth Fellowship and later preach in the Cantonese service. I had to polish up my Cantonese because it is quite different when we present the truth; it is not the same way like the colloquial presentation. We moved to the Section 17 new premises in September 1991. I ministered in the Cantonese service more because the colabourer went to study in Singapore during that time. In 1993, the co-labourer returned back from Far Eastern Bible College and took care of the Cantonese service. He was ordained together with me on Reformation Sunday in 1998. He left to serve in Johore in 2000. Then l took care of both Chinese and English services since then. To serve continuously in two languages is a very challenging task indeed.

After giving due consideration to the providence of the Lord, l have decided to resign as the Pastor of Calvary Jaya Bible Presbyterian Fellowship on 19 May 2020 by giving one month’s notice to the Board of Elders. Though l will focus more on the Chinese Service, l will still help out in the English service. I feel burdened to build up the Chinese literature ministry also. I perceive that it is good to do whatever that l can for the Chinese-speaking members now. Pray that they may be grounded in the gospel faith and will be used by the Lord to reach out to more people. This is the second phase of my ministry here. May the Lord help us.

I thank God for the opportunity to serve His church in the capacities that He had bestowed upon me all these years. I would also like to record my thanks to the Board of Elders and the Session too. May we all continue to "...grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen" (2 Peter 3:18).

Rev. Lee Kim Shong

From The Board Of Elders: Revised Spiritual Roles and Responsibilities of CJBPF

On 19th May 2020, Rev Lee Kim Shong had decided to step down as the Pastor of Calvary Jaya BP Fellowship, giving a month’s notice to the Board of Elders (BOE), after much thought and prayer. His last day as Pastor will be on 18th June 2020. However, Rev Lee KS has decided to remain as a full-time Preacher.

As Rev Lee KS enters into the next phase of service for the Lord, may the Lord continue to use and enable him mightily and profitably in His Vineyard.

Rev Lee KS will focus on the service with the Chinese Congregation. As an ordained Minister for God, he will continue to perform the duties of an ordained Minister for the Fellowship like the Lord’s Supper, Baptism, Marriage Solemnisation, Vigil and Funeral services etc

On behalf of the Session and Congregation, the BOE would like to thank Rev Lee KS for his past years of blessed pastoral service and his continuing service in the Fellowship.

Deacon Lim Seh Beng will now look after the Lord’s flock in the English Congregation with Elder Chan Wan Fook for the Grace Deaf Ministry.

The BOE would also like to announce that Rev (Dr) Quek Suan Yew has agreed to be the Advisory Pastor of the Fellowship. The role of Rev (Dr) Quek Suan Yew is to provide input to the BOE when doctrinal matters pertaining to faith and practise are being sought.

The BOE and the Session will continue to be responsible for spiritual development and growth of the Fellowship.

Let us continue to pray and look to God for help, guidance and blessings as Calvary Jaya BP Fellowship enters into another era of challenges in His Vineyard.

Let us “… stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;” Philippians 1:27 and call upon Him “… for the joy of the LORD is your strength.” Nehemiah 8:10

To God be the Glory.
