APPLY OUR HEARTS UNTO WISDOM

Apply Our Hearts Unto Wisdom

(Scripture reference: Psalm 90:1-17)

One member from the Puchong service departed to be with the Lord this early morning around midnight. The late Mrs. Wong Kong Fook has been with Calvary Jaya for around 17 years. She came with a group of senior citizens from Subang Jaya area. Two of the group members went home to be with the Lord years ago. One couple moved to Penang with their daughter. One was moved to a Christian senior citizens home in Ipoh. Mr. Wong Kong Fook came to know the Lord a few years ago but he was very earnest about the faith. He attended the Basic Bible knowledge class faithfully and eventually received into church membership later. He came to Lord’s Day service without fail unless he was very ill. He was in unbelief for many years and he was led to believe by his wife who was converted much earlier. He stayed put in the town for church service even though the wife had to go back to home town in Perak once in a while. He fell ill last year and went home to be the Lord at the end of November last year. We missed a gracious man in our midst.

Mr. and Mrs. Wong were known for their hospitality. They would prepare something for members to stay back to eat after the Puchong service regularly. The worshippers were encouraged to stay back for a simple lunch and talk to one another. There was a kindred spirit for us to get to know each other more. The Wongs were known for their gracious demeanour that they helped the newcomers to feel at home. Their gracious attitude and words reflected the grace of God in their lives. They had opened their house and their son’s house for Christmas caroling reception. Their daughters have believed in the Lord Jesus Christ as their God and Saviour long ago. They had spoken to their son and daughter-in-law and grandsons about the gospel of Christ. May the Lord work in their lives continuously and save them in due time.

Our God is eternal but man is transient. Psalm 90:10 says “The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; it is soon cut off, and we fly away.” The late Mr. and Mrs. Wong had used the opportunities given to them to serve the Lord. While we all still have breath in our nostrils, the Lord expects us to serve Him. It is true that the world is in big problem. The virus pandemic had caused the world to tremble, not to mention other troubles. The Lord just wants His people to do their part for His kingdom. Each of us have a limited time for our calling. We live day by day. None of us know what is going to happen the next minute. "So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom” (Psalm 90:12). Wisdom is the fear of the Lord. The Lord is the Maker of heaven and earth. He is our Creator and Sustainer of our life. We owe our breath to Him; we should thank Him and live for God. We can thank Him by obeying His Word. Our short stay on earth is to let the Lord work out His will in our lives We are not made and saved by God for self-centred purpose but for His kingdom. Only then we will not have many regrets when we depart to be with the Lord one day. We pray that the Lord will give us the spiritual insight to see the importance of serving Him.
