GRH 318 Though Men Despise and Friends Revile

(1)
Tho’ all the world despise, revile,
Tho’ bonds of friendship break,
I’ll still recall what my God said;
‘My own I’ll not forsake.’

(2)
Tho’ thorns obstruct my way ahead,
Tho’ enemies ensnare,
I’ll still believe in my Lord’s love
And trusting feel no care.

(3)
Tho’ meadows lack their wonted grass,
Tho’ I’ve no place to feed,
The Lord is still my shepherd good
And He’ll to pastures lead.

(4)
Although rock springs are dry within,
Tho’ birds a thirst may cry,
My Lord still comforts me and says:
‘Your wants I’ll satisfy.’

(5)
Although I pass thro’ famine, drought,
With Him I’ll fear no ill,
The jar of meal will not give out,
The cruse of oil He’ll fill.

(6)
I hail my Lord’s most gracious love,
Support of all my days.
I’ll laud His name while life shall last,
His glories I will praise.
